Ravnica: Clue Edition

March 3rd, 2024 — Parker LaMascus

This article is part of our community-sourced Set Prospective series. We survey Cube designers before the set’s official release to document their first impressions of new cards.

Ravnica: Clue Edition is the latest tie-in set to come to Magic, and that means more cards to consider in Cube. Despite the link to non-Magic IP, CLU is mostly based on the well-loved plane of Ravnica, giving it more historical clout among Cube curators.

Single Card Discussion

Carnage Interpreter
Ecstatic Electromancer
Afterlife Insurance
Scuttling Sentinel

The most-tested cards from CLU are all hybrid cards that seem to have been costed as if they’ll be played under color identity rules, rather than being drafted. For example Carnage Interpreter can be drafted into any color pair except 3 (the

{W}{U}{G}
guilds), but its stats and abilities are as powerful as if it costed
{1}{R}{B}
. The same goes for the other most-tested cards on this list, suggesting to me that CLU offers a significant boost of power in Cube draft formats that seek to maximize it.
