The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander
This article is part of our community-sourced Set Prospective series. We survey Cube designers before the set’s official release to document their first impressions of new cards.
Ahoy again, me sailors! Didn’t have enough of the caverns quite yet, eh? Still on the hunt for Magic? Well, though we seafarin’ folk serve only our Admiral, I do hear scuttle of a Commander who guards treasures an’ magics galore! Heave to!

Well, the ship nerd-swain’s on watch in the crow’s nest, so yer stuck with ol’ Cap’n Redbeard this time! I hear there’s four-score magicians like yerself who’ve sent us missives of their goals for Cube. But, on th’ whole, the lot ain’t testin’ more’n one spell…
(What else d’you expect from a C’mander? Shoulda called it an Admiral if’n ye want seaworthy results!)

Shipshape Mates
Shiver me timbers, if it isn’t me ol’ crewmates from back aboard the Scurvy Loaf, now the first mate of this here boat? Them broadside bombardiers were always fine gunners, e’en if they were a bit battle-crazed. Ye’ll take my advice: load their cannons with food, not treasure!
An’ speakin’ o’ treasure, that Chimil is a mighty fine prize. Too bad that bloodsuckin' lily liver an’ those funny cat people are after it, too. By my ghost, these magics are powerful — meant t’ protect a brawlin’ sailor, not a contest between only two mages! So it goes with C’mander.
Plunder Alert
O’course, no self-respectin’ pirate could survey these seas without a look at th’ plunder! Like most c’manders, these galleons are sailin’ low, heavy with treasure for the discernin’ entrepreneur.
